Filters

I have a Hagen filter. I've never heard of this brand, but I got it at the lfs. Also, another question (a dumb one, I think)...If I do regular water changes (weekly), do I need a filter at all. I have a 10 gallon tank and if I put an air pump in it and I clean it regularaly, can I go filterless? In it there will be 1 baby angel fish.

I read on an angelfish board that an adult angelfish needs at least 10 gallons. So, if I use my 10 gallon as a grow-out tank for my baby angelfish, I think I'll be okay.

So anyway, about going filterless...???

i've found hagen air pumps r sooooooo noisy, so maybe it's the brand but i think u do need a filter because it keeps putting clean water into the tank..........i'm sure theres more to it but i don't really know. and i think u need at least 20 gallons for a single angel fish plz correct me if i'm wrong

Well, I do have a 20 gallon, it's not ready yet.

Yeah, this thing (filter) is going to put me in the nut house! I'm glad this is considered noisy and some filters (I assume) are less so.

This Hagen set I have is an air pump and filter combo. It's SO noisy.

You most definatly need a filter!

You are suppose to do water changes weekly or bi weekly with a filter. Filters remove alot of the yuckyness in the tank. And a baby angelfish is a delicate little thing. Your little baby will be stressed if you go without a filter.

I have found BioWheel filters are very quiet. You hardly notice they are on. And if you are keeping one baby in the tank, the filter provides enough airation alone.

Canis_Lupus (Love the name btw :D): Since he is putting in a baby (Which is usually a body size of a penny or so) he can be in the ten gallon until he reaches a certain size. Correct me if I am wrong though :p

I figured. :*) I just thought I'd ask...that's good to know. Thanks!

you can buy a bowl filter

They can be used for 20 gallon tanks
They dont use electricity
Usually for goldfish bowls
very cheap ($12)
cleans okay...

Definately no sound

aquaclear filters r quiet and so r whisper ones........u might want to consider changing brands. my hagen air pump that came with my tank cannot b silenced....i almost smashed the thing!!!!! i have a cheapo air pump and it's 10 times quieter

and about the angel i have no idea.......i'm sure it's fine to keep it in the 10 until it's bigger then get it a nice tall tank. but truthfully i don't know!!!!!!

I find that my filters are particually noisy when a lot of air is getting forced through them, so in an effort to stop this from being so much of a problem I have increased the water flow and decreased the air intake, meaning that I have a small nember of bubbles getting "scattered" across the back wall of the tank, rather than a large number of bubbles getting forced to the surface, this makes it a lot quieter.

Not sure what type of filter you have, so dont know if this will owrk for you..?

Thank you all...I went to PetsMart and Petco and they had NO idea what I was asking for when I mentioned BioWheel and bowl filters.

*sigh*

Everytime I go in there I get more disgusted with their employees. I'mma head to a local (non-chain) fish store and see if they can help me.

Another quick question: Can you feed baby angelfish gold fish food? I got some in that little Hagan filter set. The guy told me baby angelfish could eat gold fish flakes.

If you're in UK that's because they aren't sold here.

The Penguin BioWheel filters are made by MarineLand Aquarium Products. I e-mailed them for a UK distributor. They gave me the name "SnowCrest", which someone told me is a wholesaler, however, they must have a list of retailers they supply.

Tel: 01509 610310

Be greatful if anyone calls them if they'd let me know what they say.
