Hi, I have just changed to external filters. Is it best to run with the return flow fully open for maximum filtration or should it be cut down to a steady flow.

It just depends on your tank and inbitants. If the filter is good for 30-60 galons, but your tank is 30 then it might be best to slow it down (if you can). If the fish are slurred in the current, then turn it down. If not and all seems happy, it's fine :thumbs:
 
Hi, thanks for the reply, one is a aqua pro one for a 40gal the other is tetratec ex700 up to 60gal my tanks are both 40gal. tankone,2 ottos, 2bristlenose, 1 julli, 3 pandas, 5 cherry barbs, 5 empera tetras 2 black mollies, 1 white molly, 4 dwarf rainbows. tank two, 2 ottos, 2 bristle nose, 1 julli, 1 bronze corry, 3 sterbia corries, 2 glowlights, 2 cardinals, 1 neon, 3 dwarf rainbows, 2 white mollies,.
