Hey everyone,
Was just wondering if anyone could reccomend me any external filters as im sick of the eye sore in my tank. I looked at the fluval 104 (I think) and an ehiem but i was wondering if you could suggest two models.
I need one for a 22g and one for a 15g, I like to overfilter and dont mind paying a reasonable price.
Any suggestion?

You won't get an eheim small enough. Your best be would be a Fluval 104 for your tanks up to 22 US gallon.
A 27 gallon I'm not sure - perhaps the next size Fluval up :dunno: 204

I have a 22g with a Fluval 204, but I'm not a particularly big fan of the Fluvals as they always seem to break!!!

. If were you, I'd go with an eheim ecco 2231, or the 2211 classic, or the 2222 professional 2. All slightly overfilter your tank, but will be so much better than the Fluval, and better to overfilter than underfilter!!!

I still reckon the current as such will be too strong for a 22 gallon. It depends entirely what fish you plan to keep, so take care with what you choose.

Oppps sorry blozoo i didnt read your first reply properly, so a fluval 104 will be fine in a 22g also? If so would you recomend them? Fish are danios and cories.
Thanks

The 104 has an output of 480l/h, and the Emeim 2211 is quoted at 300l/h, 2222 at 500l/h and the Eco 2232 is 400l/h, so all but the Professional 2 are rated lower than the Fluval, will last longer and filter better!! :p

Thanks they have all models you mentioned down the lfs, and good prices also. Cheaper than Ebay, whichi thought was impossible

Fluval 104.

Cheapest and best at the price.

And the cheapest place to buy them is.........

Pets at Home!

v.cheap.

Cheaper than anywhere else when you include p&p and all that.

Sub.

Hagen is also about to launch the "next Generation" Fluvals - so the 5 series. Therefore some good deals might be had on the current 4 series (i.e. the 104).

Sorry, can i just add my comment in about fluvals:

The tank that a Fluval says it will filter is based on an empty tank. Basically speaking, a tank with only water and nothing, nothing else. They aren't bad filters, but they can be misleading. A fluval 104 is actually not enough, even though it says it will, to filter a 22g. It would be best suited for a 10 gal or something of the like. I actaullly didn't know this before either, but i soon found out at my LFS. Who DID, by the way, sell fluvals.

Uhm, why would it say it's suitable for a 20 gallon tank if it's not ? :/
Who would run an empty tank with nothing in it ?
If it didn't do what it says it will do on the box, the advertising standards would have long ago cracked down on it and pulled it from the market. It would be false advertisement if it said suitable for 20 gallons - when in fact it could only handle 10.

The flowrate is higher than some of the Eheims for much larger tanks even. Hagen / Fluval is a very good and recognised brand.
