I guess it depends what model of Eheim you're talking about. I just bought a Professional 2224 and it really couldn't be easier to start and maintain.
Cleaning every 12 weeks how much better could it get ?

Another vote for Aquaclear. Some of mine are over 15 years old and going strong.

I use none of those - I prefer Rena or Hagen - Rena is better made but more expensive - Hagen are great for the price.
