Agh. I went to Wal-Mart about a week ago because the original filter in my 2.5-gallon tank was no longer working properly. I bought the smallest filter they had for my tank (I believe it was called a Whisper 2-12 or something like that), and now it's much too strong for my tank. I had a betta in the tank, but he kept getting his tail sucked into the filter, and stayed in one place because the filter was too strong, whenever he swam around he got sucked by the filter. So he's not in there anymore and the tank is empty. Is there anything I can do to make the filter not so strong? I would just buy another filter, but I do not have any money to spare at the moment. I would just take the filter out completely, but without the filter the tank starts to get dirty and filthy with algae.

Can anyone help, please?

What about just getting a tiny corner box or sponge filter.
Just an example of a Sponge filter and an example of a Box filter. These types are very very gentle and create almost no aggitation at all.

Get an Azoo palm filter or red sea nano filter. These are HOB's 16 GPH. Great little filters. Cost about $8-$10.

Before you buy another filter . Get a foam block made for aa Aquaclear mini cut a hole just large enough to slip over intake tube at strainer. This may reduce flow enough and work as a pre filter too. Cost about a $1.
