Filter

Thanks i will chat with my mum about it.

Also wonder if you can tell me, currently if i kept my FLUVAL 4, will the current be to strong?

Im not sure as I don't know whether the current is the same/different to newer fluvals.

Also it depends what type of fish you want to keep - some like it, some don't!

My friend has a fluval 4+ on her goldfish tank and the current is really very strong. Her goldfish can cope with it cos they are big, but little fish might have problems.

You could keep the filter but rearrange it so it points at a wall or a tall rock or something, to dissipate the current. Does it have a flow adjuster?

Depends on the kind of fish you will be keeping. Long finned fish like guppies and bettas dont like alot of current. Also that filter should have a flow control knob on the top of the unit that will reduce the current and also if you aim the output at the side or back glass it will reduce the current as well. HTH :)

thanks, yes it has a control bit on the top, currently it is on minmum, and it flows water across the whole of the tank, do you think that things like tetra's etc will be ok?

there are a couple of little bits of gravel which have decided to float and they get pushed around abit, if that helps.

Many tetras are fine in the fast current. My neons and cardinals always go to the outflow when it is feeding time. To make the current a little weaker try pointing the outlet at either the back glass or the side directly behind the filter. This will stop that strong steady current going right across the tank. HTH :)

If it moves your gravel I would say it is too strong :/ I also recommend the new fluval 2+, theyre a great range, very quiet. Get one which can filter your water 4 times an hour (look for 400ish litres per hour). Fluval 2+ does 400, which is perfect for your tank @ 88litres. It would also be less current :)

Ok thanks, i will point it to the side now and see what difference is made.

Edit: WOW thats quality its actually stoped it now.

thanks for that 1.

I shut mine off at night just because it takes energy... My fish has been alive for like... 4 months now? probably 3. -_- Learn something new every day.

If you do enough water changes and have few enough fish i'd imagine you could get away with no filter? Wouldn't like to risk it myself.

Indeed, my gramp has some cory's and angel fish in his 4ft, and he only uses filter when he cleans the glass and stuff, and he doesnt ever have an air pump running.

wow i wouldnt drema of turnin my filter off..not in any of my tanks..

iv only got air pumps runnin in two of my tanks and they are only there because im cyclin some box filters for a mate.

madness :S

I'd have disagree about teras and guppies in regard to current...when I had guppies they'd play in the current all day, every day, and I have some tetras now whihc only ever use one part of the tank - which I've realised is the area with least current. I guess all fish are individuals though :)
