hi guys ! i have an internal sponge filter (dunno how it's called), there is a water flow, and an air intake for making bubbles also....and im new into this hobby ! i know that the green stuff that grows on the filter, is called bacteria, wich is essential for the water, but when do i need to clean it ? and how ? should i simply rinse it a little or thoroughly ? thanks !

You clean it when it starts to get clogged up.

The green stuff isn't the bacteria, it's algae. The bacteria will look like a brown coloured stain.

Was the sponge gently in some old tank water; just enough to get the fish poo off. Don't go mad scrubbing and squeezing it.

If it is like my Fluval internal, it has a flow indicator that reveals a red line as it gets plugged. Clean it each time the red bar shows up.
