hi i am quite new to the hobby but have done a lot of reading on the subject i currently have a juwel rio 240 which i bought second hand.When purchased it came with the internal filter that comes as standard i have just bought a new external filter fluval 305 i know i will have to run the 2 along side each other but will it effect my water, is there anything i could do to help the new filter along i dont want the fish to be effected

personally I would take out the internal filter and just run the 305

personally I would take out the internal filter and just run the 305

my goal is to remove the internal filter but i thought you had to cycle the new filter first before i remove the old one because the new one wont have none of the good bacteria in it
 
transfer the old media into the new filter. the bacteria will transfer
