im not really sure if this is the section for this but i guess it is an emergency.ive just realised my filter wasnt fully plugged in so it hasnt been running. it could of been not running for as long as 3 days. would the bacteria have died? if it has how do i stop my tank from cycling again?

For how long ?

Rinse the media , and do a water change , don't over feed for a few days .

Maybe pass on feeding at all for a day or so .

All surfaces in your tank should have colonies of bacteria on them , not just inside your filter .

You should be ok , as long as your stocking level isn't to high .

Water changes

nless your tank is smaller than 29g you sholdnt have a problem. small tanks can get out of hand quickly but if it was well established i agree theres no problem :D

If you have test kit test for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, and just do a water change.

my tank is only newly established and its overstocked because i'm keeping mbuna. i havent had itme to test the nitrites or nitrates but my ammonia is 0.25 and my PH is 8.5. ill do a water change and try to get some used filter media off a friend but im not sure what else i can do to stop it from spiking. if all the bacteria has dided in my filter there wont be enough bacteria to use up the ammonia will there?

How big is the tank, and what type of fish and how many, if you don't have scaless fish add some salt this will help alittle.

the tank is 65 US gallons. i have mbuna in there(red zebras, electric yellows, salousi's and some hybrid type) and a bristlenose catfish. i have 16 fish altogether which is about 71 inches of fish.
