HI OK my question is the longer the siphon tube to the filter or the closer it is to the bottom the better or the worse it will filter and make the water more likeable for the fish (opinions are welcome)

gravel, sand, or what ever you have at the bottom of the tank.

For mechanical filtration it tends to do a better at the bottom, since mulm sinks. Also, since water is usually brought back into the tank at the tip, it seems logical that if water is taken from the bottom then it would be better for water displacement overall.

I also place mine close to the bottom.
