Hi everyone,

Recently I have run into troubles with my Fluval 205 filter. Flow has dropped off considerably and it makes a fair bit of noise. It started doing this a few weeks ago and I completely cleaned out the filter, pipes and everything. It solved the problem for a few days, but now it's back at it and no amount of pumping or unplugging and plugging back in helps. It's a concern as there have been numerous occasions where it's been okay in the morning and Ive got home from work that evening and there's been little to no flow. I'm concerned for the ammonia levels in my tank if this keeps happening. The noise is also an issue as its five feet from my bed.

As I said, I only cleaned It out a few weeks ago and I don't want to be going through that all the time. Wondering it there's anything else I should be doing?

Only had it since October so it should still be under warranty. Does anyone here have any experience in claiming off a fluval warranty if there's nothing more I can do?

That is what ultimately led me to the amazing world of TetraTEC :D

If you have the reciept for the Fluval then you will be ok, if not then you're screwed.

I'm not overly impressed with my fluval if I'm honest and would change to a TT or APS given the chance, but unless fluval refund me it's not gonna happen, and I can't see that happening.

I bought the fluval online so I should have an email receipt. Yay for never deleting emails!

I emailed Fluval with what I wrote here (I copy and pasted most of it), saying I've cleaned my filter and it's still not flowing and it's still making this noise. Their suggestion was to clean it. Uh, did you read my message?

I've messaged them back. Hoping they'll sort it quickly because the flow is horrendous now and I'm concerned for my fish. I wouldn't go with a Fluval again.

Have you took the impeller out and check it ? I had the same filter with no problems but the flow was always low.
Eheim all the way now for me.

Have to agree with minnnt here. Iv had a few different fluval filters, fx5, 406, 405, 306, 205 and U2 and then decided to change my fx5 (because its stupidley big and looks hideous.. Like a dustbin) for 2 tetratec 1200's. My opinion on tetratec - sooo good :) cheaper than the 406 and much better.

Hope you get your money back so you can get something different

The flow was very good when I got it. Now I'm running my crappy little 200LPH filter I had in storage for a fry tank when I needed it, and it's chucking out more than my 205 is. It's not cycled but it has a spray bar so is creating a bit of flow and hopefully oxygen.

I've replaced the T piece I was using on the outflow with the one that came supplied with the 205 now to see if it made any difference. There is barely a trickle coming out of it.

Still waiting for another reply from Fluval. Been looking at some TT ones but they're expensive. Trying to find something second hand if I can now. I prefer to overfilter my tanks, partly because I hope to get a bigger tank some time in the future and I dont want to have to upgrade the filter if I can help it. Would a EX1200 be too powerful for a 60L tank?

seriously BUT a tetratec, i purchased my new ex1200 a week last monday, ok the primer button was jammed which resulted in me contacting them (with minnts) help monday this week and they were amazing, no questions asked, sent BRAND new powerhead, keep other one etc, didnt ask when i bought it or nothin, just met with sorrys! i received it yday all the way from germany! i contacted them today to say thank you (freephone number) as i wanted to really thank them for helping me so efficiently. i asked if i could buy pieces for my spray bar and WOW they said don't worry we'll send you a whole new spray bar facilitiy FOC!!!

regarding the ex1200 its the business and works perfectly inline with my hydor 300w heater again recommended by people on here, if you are lookin to go along the new purchase route GET THIS!!!

customer service in any industry and on any product is key, theres is better than anyones ive ever encountered, althought with "germans" i'm not surprised as they are very efficient :)

ps: mine runs on a 140litre tank the bigger the better i was told, designed to work on 200-500litre!!!
