hi, i have Shark ADV internal power filter which came with the tank which i bought second hand. When the filter is switched on there are lots of air bubbles coming from the top it's also quite noisey. Is this normal? It has been cleaned and is still producing lots of bubbles and noise.

Is it a constant stream of bubbles or just a few now and then. I had a bit of noise and bubbles from my Eheim 2252. I fixed this by keeping it submerged and tipped it side to side a few times, while running, and the trapped air was able to get out it is now bubble free and silent.

It's difficult to describe, it's kind of like lots of bubbles being pumped out not in a constant flow but like jets but veryquickly. It's difficlt to describe, they have the same in the 'fishshop' but their's is silent.

Is the fiter completely submerged? If the air isn't a constant flow, then there's trapped air somewhere in the intake. It should eventually bleed out.

Yes it is completely submerged apart from the small air pipe. It has 2 sections to it, the bottom part for machanical filtration this is connected another part through magnets. This second cartridge is for biological, mechanical and chemical filtration.

when i take the bottom part away (mechanical filtration) the bubbles and noise stops!!????

If it is air trapped what should i be doing to correct it?

Any ideas?
