Hi all,

I have an Aquaone 620T tank with the overhead trickle filter. I have never really been impressed with its efficiency and it tends to rattle so I have purchased a Fluval 205 canister filter.

I have plumbed this in last night with some minor mdifications to the rear filter housing and attempted to seed the "noodles" in the Fluval with some mature noodles from the overhead filter.

So now I have both filters running side by side. The eventual aim is to do away with the overhead filter.

The question: How long should I run these two filters side by side before turning one off?

Anyone got any other thoughts about my "arrangements"?

TIA :good:

I think two weeks is how long most people run them together for.
Put as many noodles from the old Filter into the new one as you can ,that will help a lot.

when i did a filter switch from a fluval 205 i just left both filters running on my tank for a month. But when i did my switch from the fluval to the tetratec ex1200 i didnt have time so i transfered all the noodles (ceramic wrings) and added 2 100ml bottles of safe start (uk's bio spira)

When I did a transfer from Aqua-one to fluval I had enough room to fit all the media in the fluval so That worked for me. You could use all the old noodles in the new filter and take out as many of the new ones as you need to to fit all the old.

Just do regular check of your water stats over the next week or two to make sure all it ok.

If you transfer the top layers of filter media and or any ceramic bacteria capture bits into the new filter you really shouldnt need to run them both. Having said that im a big coward and would run both for about a month.
