Filter Stopped Working

I changed my substrate today from gravel to sand.
Switched everything off before I started, took the filter out & cleaned the sponges as usual.
Did the tank, filled it carefully, left it for an hour or so then put the filter & heater back in.
Switched on & nothing, I know it's not the socket as the heaters working.
It's quite a new filter, only had it a few months & it was working perfectly before I switched it off.
Any ideas why it stopped working?

what sort is it ? sometimes the impellor just gets stuck. and it just needs a tap or a couple of switch ons to get it going again. used to happen in my eheim external.

It's a Fluval U3
I'll try giving it a tap or two.
Got it in a bucket right now

As said above take a look at the impeller maybe something has jammed it.

That didn't work.
I looked at the impeller & it moves ok so nothing's stuck.
It doesn't make a sound when switched on as if it's trying to work, it's just dead

Check the fuse

switch it on and try tapping the propeller mine does exactly the same when i turn it off, it wont spin again until i touch the prop
