Filter Sponges

Hi, as you know i have just bought a tank. but the filter sponges came in a seperate bag and i have to put them in the tank. Whick order should i put them in?
I've heard that the black sponge should go at the top, but i'm not sure about the rest.

what type of filter have you got

black sponge could well be a carbon sponge and not totally necicary for the tank,
