filter question

Hi Everyone. I wanted to know if anyone has any experience using a Penn Plax Smallworld Filter swf-1 . I have a 2.5G minibow and I really disliked the internal filter, so I ditched it. It took up too much room and I felt was a piece of junk. The penn plax is very simple and smaller. Has anyone had success or like these? I decided to try it out. I know a lot of people would say don't use a filter, but I prefer one due to time limitations and other hobbies, etc.

I used to use them in my 2.5 gallon tanks and I found that it didnt do its job very well. Like it kept the water clear but the tank still smelled after 2 weeks and I had to empty the whole tank and clean instead of just doing parchal water changes. Also I found that the filter had to be replaced every 2 weeks because the whole filter turned brown...
I would recamend using a 'Deco Art Nano Filter' Thats what I use on my 2.5 gallon tanks now and so far its working very well. You could even use a whisper filter but I had to slow the current down using the pepsi bottle technique.
