hi, Is it ok to run the filter pump 24 hours or shall I run it after I feed the fishes....for say 2 hours...or how should one run a pump in a aquarium. :S

thanks,
Nathan

24/7. never switch it off apart from cleaning time.

if you read in the beginner section there are lots of topics on this sort of thing.

good luck with your tank

Only switch it off when its absolutly nescessary, a filter has to run 24 hours a day everyday, also never clean your filter with TAP water and never let it dry out if you are doing maintainence on your tank as you will kill any benificial bacteria in it.

Like Jimboo said search the beginner section for more info.

no filters are made to run 24/7 for 365 days a year. Mine's been running for years.

mine is 900 lph and I am having a 29 gallon tank its force is high and my guppies goes for toss when I run it....and even my plants have problems sticking on the gravel............and I was wondering will it increase my electricity bill too.....

thats way too strong for the tank in my opinion. can you adjust the output at all. you are really looking for a filter to turnover the tank water 4 times per hour. not much more than that.

ie 116 litres per hour would be okay, 900 er yeah i can see why your guppies are not too keen on the tidal wave in their tank.

Nathan you need to get a filter that's acutally suited for a 29 gallon tank. Like Jimboo said, you have a mini tital wave in your tank there ! it's really not heathy for your fish or plants at all.
