Hi All,
At long last my tank arrived today Aqua One 980T,so a couple of questions please.

I have read this link http://www.majesticaquariums.com.au/Initiatives/top-filter-warning-45

Now as far as I know( I think) Aqua One has rectified this problem with and overflow type chamber that is set down 40mm from the top of the filter casing at the outlet end of the filter system,so I am assuming that if an overflow occurs it will safely run over the lip of the chamber and into the tank.

So I am hoping that there are other 980/T tank users who could confirm that.

I did intend to take the carbon filter out and just use filter wool in its place, though the amount of wool would be thin as there is not a lot of room,as the carbon cartridge is thin itself,I would still use the black foam and the ceramic noodles ( noodles on the bottom, black foam on top then carbon filter.

In the link they recommend upgrading the carbon cartridge to polyfilter,so I would say, ditch the carbon and fit the polyfilter.

So,would I be better off using this polyfilter or just use filter wool or is there another method I could use ( apart from external filter)on my smaller tank Aqua One UFO 550 I have the noodles on the bottom, then filter wool with the black foam on the top.

I suppose it is a bit hard to describe how it looks if you have not seen it yourselves.

Thank you for any help.

Bit of an update, found post about some else who uses same filter system, they have noodles on the bottom, black foam next and then a couple of layers of Aqua one
white pads on top of that, that way they can just rinse the pads when needed.

Back in the day I had an 850 with the same set up.

I got rid of all the cartridges and used filter sponges and ceramic noodles with a thin layer of filter cotton mat all got and cut to size from the pond department of the lfs.

I would just like to comment that the filter is SO easy to check so if it gets clogged then it is user error. Ok so people go on a fortnights holiday and leave some one not trusted to clean filters etc. so simply remove any fine filter media during this time then unless they are fed steak and chips you wont clog coarse sponge and noodles in that time!

doresy,if you can remember back to when you had the 850 in the instruction for the outlet and the extension it says connect extension to the out let and then extension to the hole under the filter tray,is this how yours went,as with mine there is no way I can get the extension into the hole,to fit from the bottom.
Thank you.
