1.Well i was removing the carbon sponge as i was adding medications to the tank, so i turned the filter off. I remove the carbon sponge, put the filter back in and pluged it in.. AND...nothing, the filter was making a noise (quiet) put it wasnt pumping water i was poopin my pants and i thought it had broken, out of frustration i hit it against the wall and hay presto it worked. Any idea what had happened?

2. Ok, this might sound a little dumb, but excuse me. Ok, if i was wanting to change filter, would i just change the bit that pumps the water in/out of itself, or would i need to change all the sponges too. As my tank has a bit in the corner (casing) where the filter and sponges go in, so its not like its removable as such (the casing) but i can take all the sponges etc out.

Thanks! :).

I sometimes have the same happen with my Rio 180. Not sure if the impeller jams, or if it's an airlock (only happens after a water change).

You can remove the whole filter box from the tank. It is glued to the glass (side & rear) with blobs of adhesive. A bit of careful work with a blade would do the trick

Its a good idea to clean the impellor every other water change with a cotton bud.HTH.
