Hi ppls. I have just fitted an Internal 1200 lph filter to my 180 litre tank and i've noticed its making more noise than my old external hanging filter. I have made sure its not touching the glass or the substrate. . Its making a constant umming noise, and almost vibrates the floor beneath it.
The fish seem fine.their appitite is normal and they're acting themselves. Im just very concsious of it atm.

Does anyone know how to dull the noise? Is this bad for the fish? Pls help Thanks :good:

So the filter is new ?
What type is it ?

Sometimes its like 'new filter' syndrome. I have an aquaball which was noisy for about a week and then just went nice and quiet. Also my eheim makes a noise if it gets air in it.

Sounds like trapped air, or maybe somehow the impellor is either not sitting straight or shaft is broke. You could try turning the filter upside down under the water for a few seconds to see if theres any trapped air, this usually gets rid of the noise.

thanks for the posts ppls. The filter is brand new. Its only a generic brand one. AQUAWORLD. *sigh* I tried turning it upside down but it still makes a real dronning sound. It has got better tho... Ill give it a few dayz and see how i go. Hopefully it will quieten up...

Ahhh yes, Aquarworld, cheapest stuff I own :p Having said that they do perform pretty well for the price. I have a 300 at the moment alongside a canister and it makes twice as much noice. The only advice I can give you is to move it as far away from anything as possible, that's the only way I can make it shutup.

Yeah it was cheap but i was told to get a larger filter. I only had a 200 in a 180 litre tank.... Thanks for the post funkyhoney.
