Filter Mistake - Replacement Suggestions?

The thing about externals is that they have a lot more space for media, than most other filters. Also, they are made to use biomedia, so cleaning of pre-filter and polishing sponge is much easier.

The spray bar is usually half a centimetre underwater, it gives your more surface agitation and better circulation. I would definitely use one over not using one.

Thanks. Could you recommend a model? All in all, I'm just looking for a filter that is quiet, moves enough water, and has the kind of filtration I need for a healthy tank

a fluval u1 filter for up to 45l or fluval u2 filter 45l to 11ol excellent filters 20 to 30 quid

Spray bar is also good to diffuse current if you were worried that a single output might create too much current in a 20 gallon.
