I have been doing some ground work with the parents in the run up to Xmas and need to give them some ideas (website + quick reference codes!) for what I'd like from them this year. I have added some filter media which soaks up phosphates to the list, is there anything else worth including in terms of filter media? I understand that ceramics may be something of a waste of time, but what about something which will soak up nitrates etc?

Recs:
- no bioballs, ceramics or sponges
-I recommend ChemiPure and a phosphate binder (Phosban, SeaGel or another product)
-personal choice whether or not to add anything else. Personally, I also run Purigen and Algone.

I was reading Calfo's Reef Inverts and he claims that just using the sponge media can be an excellent breeding ground for pods. Just a thought.
