Filter Media Question

I've just taken delivery of my new Rena tank which comes with a XP3 filter. I'm going to be setting the tank up in the next week or so and was wondering whether I should get some of the Rena Bio-Chem Stars to add to the filter.

Is there much difference between these and say:

I don't mind spending the extra if its worth it but was just wondering if people had any thoughts on this.
The filter comes with some Bio-Carb Zorb and Foam filters. Would it also make sense to get some of this:

The tank is being started completely from fresh.
