while working on one of my filers it acoured to me that no pet stores here actually sell filter media that has established bacteria colonies, that you add to your filter to get them started. so what i could do is cut blocks of sponge, put them in a container and pump water from one of my tanks through it and then sell it to the pet stores so that people that people that have new filter media can establish bacteria fast

My dad was talking about how that would be nice a few days ago...

If you open a store please do this!

That would be extremely convinient for starting up new tanks!

It's been talked about a fair bit in the past. The problem has always been making it commercially viable. It's a product with a short shelf life and transport issues, so needs, ideally, to be produced locally, and therefore needs either a good sized fish population or an artificial ammonia source. Once you've got all of that set up then you're competing with people giving away the same product to their friends.

I'm not saying that it won't work, but I can see why it's not worked so far.

Locally I've had a fair bit of joy with asking for a bit of mature media from the shop filters, if you're a good customer then they're generally quite happy to oblige.

im sure that my 20 tanks could supply enough ammonia and them i could sell it to the local stores
