Today I got one of these aquariums second hand but I really don't know whether all Juwel sponges are the same size or else which model currently has the same size sponges?

Also, the previous owner gave me a roll of filter wool. Please can someone tell me how this should be used in the filter? Does it have to go in the same casing as the sponges? What is the minimum of sponges that must be in the filter? At the moment there are some old carbon sponges in there which i will remove.

I can't seem to find any instructions online on how to manage this filter!

The word monolux refers to the style of the hood. It came with the Juwel Rekord aquarium. There are different sizes of sponge, depending on the aquarium size. If there are some old cabon sponges in the filter, the easiest thing would be to measure one of them. From the Juwel website, there appear to be 3 sizes - Compact is 9.9cm square, Standard is 13.3cm square and Jumbo is 15.3cm square. The size of the carbon sponge should tell you which you've got.
The arrangement is 2 fine blue sponges in the bottom basket and 2 coarse ones in the top one. If there is room for more sponges, just add them. The carbon sponge is meant to go on top of the blue sponges, but I wouldn't bother. A square of the filter wool goes on top of the sponges. It gets clogged up quickly and can only be washed a couple of times before it falls apart. A roll of it is much cheaper than Juwel's precut ones. Just cut it to the same size as the sponges.

well the first link you get from Google after typing in "juwel filter" goes directly to the site. there there is a pdf, instruction for tank and filter, there is also a link which explains how the filters work.

personally i would remove the juwel item. replacing it with a filter that is up to the job. you would need to decide what type of filter you want "internal-External"

Thanks to all who answered. I was concerned about the very slow flow from this filter but I think I will give it a try and just have fish that don't require a current. The advantage with this filter is that it is completely silent (at least mine is) and my daughter doesn't want any hum in her bedroom where it's situated so that's the main reason I don't replace it. I wonder if the slow flow limits the stocking capacity at all.

it limits stocking. full stop. this, as juwel say, is for a "lightly stocked and planted tank". as for current. i run a "real" flow of 1000lph, in my tank of 200L. with no, apparent, problems.
