Hi
Ive recently bought this tank
a081_1.jpg

I want to rehome the whitespot tetra from my juwel as they bully. Anyway Its a fishrfun bow fronted tank approx 7 gallon, Its 2nd hand so never came with any intructions for the filter so I dont have a clue. Theres i believe to be carbon then some sort of filter followed by bioballs?

Questions are:
Do i change or rinse bioballs, what sort of maintence do i need to do with it. With my juwel its just sponges and i managed to download a manual so know what to do maintaince wise.
If anyone has or has had this tank id appricate some help, ive visited the fishrfun website but they dont help they only sell the media, I need to know how to maintain this.
Thanks Nikki

You can remove the carbon, and save it for when/if you use medication in the future, as this can be used after they've run there course to remove any leftover. Also, they generally need replacing after a few weeks/a month or they dump anything they've filtered back into the water.

The bio balls are you biological filtration, and will need to be rinsed in the tank water when you do a water change. Do not rinse them under the tap. The chlorine in your tap water will kill off the bacteria on the bio balls and you'll have an uncycled tank.

Other than that, rinse the filter sponge as you would normally too, in tank water.

Hope that helps :)

Thank you :)
So its just a case of rinising and maybe replace balls/sponges every so often (every few months or longer?) i understand it now thanks for the help

I've had my sponges for over 3 years now and they're still going strong. Haven't used bio balls but again I would imagine you are looking at years before you need to change them. They only need to be chucked out really once theyre completely falling apart.
