Deciding what filter I should go for, for my 20 gallon (75 liter) aquarium home for Dwarf Puffers. Also if you choose other could you tell me your alternative..

Cheers

Matt :good:

eheim or fluval, if you wanna go with something cheap go with something good, do the penguin biowheel filter much better then any powerfilter on the market for the price

Thanks for the fast reply Lhutch... Would a Penguin BIO-Wheel 125 be most suitable for a 20 gallong tank. Also what would I be expecting to pay for this (I live in the UK).

I like Aquaclears the best. They have seperate medium, unlike the ones up there or the penguin one. That way, you keep good bacteria constantly in your tank. That's really good for sensitive puffers. I'd get a Aquaclear 30 if you wanted one.

Thanks for the reply chibi. So its maximum capacity is 113L (30G) is that OK for a 75L (20G) Puffer aquarium. Also how much does it cost in the UK?

Fluval is absolutely trash, i will tell you right new and here, no bs

I have one + another HOB filter, water quality is horrible, go for a canister instead, I dont have experience with the fluval canister, however.

I am leaning towards Eheim, as I kinda lost my faith in Fluval products

I have a Fluval 2 plus internal in my 17G community and it is fine...

I agree, Aquaclear's are probably the best HOB's every made, the filter sponge and bio-media are separate, and there is plenty of room to add a polishing sponge/filter or more bio-media. Not sure how much they cost in the UK, but they are fairly inexpensive here.

there actually very cheap i would say 25 american dollers, conversion tho it should be 16 europe dollers

Thanks for the feed back guys. So far the Aquaclear is the filter only standing out at me. I will have a look around in some of the shops to get an idea of the prices. Just one minor change, I have decided to get a pair of Figure 8 Puffers instead. Hope that doesn't change the required filtration.

Can you use an aquaclear if your aquarium has a hood?

English tank's aren't really designed for HOB's.

I'd go for the 2212 aquaball from that list, I'm using one (along with others) on my 30g. I also have the fluval 2+ on the same tank, but I prefer the eheim.

For a pair of fig. 8's you will want the best filtration you can get really, a 20g isn't a huge tank for a pair and they can make a lot of mess.

If I got an Eheim 2212, what about 1 F8 Puffer and maybe a couple of bumblebee gobies???
