This may seem like a stupid question, I have an aquaclear 200, but not using the carbon insert. Currently I have the sponge media and another sponge as I'm cloning an aquaclear mini for my 10g.

When I remove the ac mini sponge, I was thinking of using floss in the upper part of the chamber... but I don't know how to use it... just rip it off like cotton candy and stick it in? or do I put it in a nylon sack of some sort? Do I cut it with scissors or just rip it off?

I cut it to make it a more rectangular size. Put it on top of the sponge & tuck it around the outside edges of the sponge so the plastic clip holds it in place.

I use 2 sponges and filter floss in my Aquaclear. I just cut a piece that is the size of the sponge and then place it in the middle of both sponges. I use to have both sponges on the bottom and the floss on the top, but the floss kept moving around too much. The sponges keep it in place.

Make sure you rinse the floss before putting it in, after you have cut it. I have found that when I cut floss with scisors that small pieces will come off the edges and be floating around the aquarium.
