I need to buy more fine filter media for my external. Should I get the floss (comes in a rolled sheet) or wool (which is the fluffy stuff in a bag)? If you want to explain why you made your choice please do so!

Thanks!

i got the wool or the stuff in the bag because my LFS said i got more for my money and it was cheaper :good:

Floss for me, I got a massive roll off eBay for cheep! And I can simply layer it as thick as I want.

I buy the rolls as well; much easier to cut it to fit externals. It does seem to shrink a bit, IME, so cut it a bit bigger than you need :good:

I always get the rolls and layer it up. Not seen the bags of wool before around here.

Hi ian, i'm talking about this stuff FLOSS vs. this stuff WOOL
Hope that makes more sense

Edit: however, I may not have been using the right words to differentiate between them?

i thought it was the same stuff my bad... i use wool it just came in a bag- confusion :look:

I think they are, technically, the same thing, it's just whether it comes in rolls or loose.

It's the same thing. The wool is just floss pulled apart and stuffed in a bag. I buy rolls off ebay.

And does anyone have any guesses as to whether one is more effective than the other? I guess it all depends on the density of what you get :/
The roll def. looks more convenient than the loose stuff
