Hi all, newbie here :hyper: I bought a trigon 190 a while ago and since I got it I just haven't seen happy with the way that it is filtered. My brother has a 3foot tank with a Fluval filter (I think) and the water in his tank seems to be always crystal clear whereas mine doesnt seem to be just as clear. My water isnt dirty or anything but just not as clear as his and it annoys me lol. All water tests are fine and the fish all seem happy in the tank. The filter that is in it is the one that the Trigon's come with. Also if I was to get a new filter how would I take this one off the inside of the tank as it seems stuck dead tight.

Many thanks to anyone that replies

David

I'm in much the same situation with my juwel box filter,it's just doesn't seem to be filtering the minute particles out causing a slight cloudiness.I have purchased an ehiem external filter but need a couple of bits before i can set it up.
If you do get another filter put all the contents of the juwel one into the new one so it has good bacteria in it and then with a thin bladed but sharp knife gently push it between the glass and the filter box where the blobs of black silicon are to get it to move so you can remove it.Try and free as many blobs as you can carefully and safely then wiggle it to break the bond of the others if you can't reach them.

Could you not get a fluval to fit inside the case? I've not had a problem with my Juwel at the minute, but i hope they arent that bad

we've got 2 juwel tanks... the filters on both suck (or sucked) the trigon 350 has a Tetratec 1200 running along side the internal (soon to be removed) and the first thing we did to our rio 240 when we got it was to slice the filter out and set it up with another tetratec :)

The juwel units really arnt up to much.

what sort of filter would I be looking for, when I got a new one I was going to run it alongside the one I have at the minute until it had cycled (is that the correct term)

cool, thanks for the reply, just checking ebay now and online to see if i can come across any good deals with next day delivery as thursday and friday are bank holidays in northern ireland

Hey, Head down to Grosvenor tropicals near lisburn, Their prices are decent and they know their stuff. Maybe you just need a larger filter, Is your tank bigger than your brothers?

yea a lot bigger, I'm doing a run for my uncle as he's on holiday so I'll be near Lisburn so might as well nip into Grosvenor when I'm down that way. See what the prices are like, no point in ordering over ebay now as it'll not be here to next week what with the 12th and 13th then the weekend.
Thanks JamieBailie

ive always been a fan of the marineland pengins or emperor filter systems w/ a bio wheel and they always work great for me

I removed the internal filter from my trigon 190 and replaced it with a fluval 305 external. Rather than running it along side the internal to build up bacteria, I simply removed all the carbon packs from the new external and filled the space with all the media out of the internal. I've now got crystal clear water and can adjust the flow whenever I need to(ie after a water change). Plus you get more space in the tank.
