I've had my betta a couple months now, but recently I replaced the filter - the tank was an old one my girlfriend used to use and was no longer needed. Anyway, it still had a working filter, but it was a bit ropey to say the least. Anyway, I recently bought a fluval 1+ for the tank, but this produces a noticably stronger current than the old filter. I was quite worried the fish might find it a bit of a struggle as a result since bettas don't seem to be fast/strong swimmers.

However, over the past few days, he's blown about three or four large bubble nests (although unfortunately they disappear after about a day or so, probably due to the current), something he hasn't done since the first few weeks I've had him. Should I take that as a positive sign that there's no problem with having the stronger filter?

If he's blowing bubble nests then yes, he's happy :)

Mine has a fluval 1 in his and copes fine

None of mine my my filtered tanks can blow bubble nests, not because of current, but because of the surface rippling... gotta give them a spot to build nests in.... maybe I will add styro cups or something.

Sounds like your betta is a happy camper, so I woud not worry about it. :D

Yup, a happy betta he is!!!
Go You!

You could place a styrofoam cup cut on the lentgh and taped to a side of the tank, as previously mentionned. That would keep the current nil and he will blow in there, although it would be useless, it's still fun to watch them blow bubbles!!! :D
