That's why i wan't you to get as much as possilbe from the old sponges, when they won't squeeze no more crap out of them,lol, test water you might have a little mini cycle.

so i get the filter home
put my other one over the new sponge squeeze put the old sponge in water and keep doing that

Yes that's right, even better if you can get your old sponges into the new filter.

ok just got a new one the man said cut it in half (the spoonge in new and old filter)

You could do that yes, will your old sponge not fit into the new filter?

not all of it but could i cut it to size (my old one ) to fit in the new one

That would be a better idea than putting in a new sponge.

yes because it would have to cyccle again 2wouldnt it so take the sponge out the old one cut it to fit in the new one and put it in

Yeah try that, how much size difference is there between the two sponges? Don't forget to keep testing your water stats just to be careful!
