Filter Broke

Just pull the compartments away from the filter, the impellar is in the top of the filter if that makes sense, remove impellor by pulling it, rinse it under the tap, then get a toothbrush and rub where the impellor goes, then bang it on the side but not with the impellor in or you will break it.

Make sure you keep the media wet until you can move it into the new filter. If it drys out, your bacteria will be gone.

Its a fluval plus then. To access the impellor pull of the section which holds your foams from the top (motor) section. Now look into the motor section and you will see the impellor with its for blades. Pull this out you may need to use a pair of tweesers or similar as its quite hard to pull out its a magnet now clean the impellor and the hole it has come from. Reassemble and retry.

I would buy a new one then, as not familar with the old fluvals, sorry.

ok so just squeeze the old filter over the new one (sponge)

Yes, then get a bit of water from the tank in a jug then rinse the old sponges again in the water and keeping squeezing the old sponges onto the new ones, till you have got alot of bacteria from them, good luck.
