i went to the pet shop yesterday and they have figure 8 puffers for normal tropical fish.
so when i have finished cycling my tank im gunna buy acople.
these were in madienhead aquatics so if you have any near you, check it out.

Figure 8 puffers live better in low end brackish water in captivity with a SG of 1.003-1.005.

They thrive better in low end brackish and I wouldn't keep them in fresh water permanently. I fluctuate my water changes on my brackish set up to replicate the salinity changes these great fish would have in the wild.

Having these fish in fw long term won't be good for them. I know you've had a look through the brackish section - check it out again for confirmation of this from Neale Monks. He knows his onions with brackish fish and recommends keeping them as I have stated. This is exactly why I keep mine like this due to his recommendations and both mine are very healthy.

Figure 8 puffers are often found in FW in the wild yet when kept in captivity they seem to do much better in brackish water. Nmonks notices that whilst they tend to live around 5 years in FW they do closer to 10 years in BW.
