Hello!

Currently have x2 dwarf jewels with a Jack Dempsey and a 'Chocolate' Cichlid in my tank.

Recently been noticing one of the dwarfs (the bigger one) has been eating the others tails. Gradually over time hes started fighting with the chocolate and tonight we come home to find the chocolate dead floating at the bottom after what looks like being eaten and bitten to pieces. Down to bare skin in places! Am gutted! (Im a woman so typically had a few tears! LOL)

What the hell can i do? Can i take the dwarfs back to the fish shop? I dont want my JD to be next!!!

Thankyouuuuuuu!

Kate

I'm not sure where you live, but in my area you can take any fish back[big al's]and they will give you about one third of the retail price of the fish if it is in good condition.Better than nothing if the fish does not work out.

Tank is 240 litres so plenty big enough for them all!

The jewels are african cichlids and highly aggressive, generally speaking you shouldnt mix african cichlids with sa/ca cichlids because of this problem (Kribenesis are an exception to the rule, cant think of many others??)

Rehome the jewels or the JD you cant keep both in the same tank.

Agree with Minx, the fish are uncompatible,

Also 240Litres wouldn't have been big enough for them when they were fully grown,

jewels as said by others are africans chocolate cichlid can hit 12 inches and the jd gets pretty big too. your tank is nowhere near big enough even for just a chocolate cichlid on its own . best thing you can do to be honest is re-home them all then start again with smaller more suitable cichlids .
