Just put my first fish into my tank, I got myself 6 neon tetra's.

Everything went fine and now an hour later and the bigger of the Tetra's seem's to be starting fights with all the others and its constant fighting!!! - Is this normal? are they just trying to establish a pecking order or do I just have a bully?

The others are just watching in each corner whilst they fight!

It is common for Neon Tetras to scrap amongst eachother. To stop this behavior you could add more
to balance the aggresion throughout the shoal. Although sometimes a rogue fish can appear within groups.

i had that problem, then i added my Mollies and it stopped, maybe because that particular fish wasnt the most dominant anymore

Yep add more if your tank will allow it, a larger fish will also make them concentrate on shoaling rather than attacking eachother.
A group of 20 neons min has a great impact in an aquarium too! :hey:

Added 2 Apisto's, there have been no more deaths but they are still fighting loads! won't be long till another one dies.

I have 5 neon's now, I could add more but that might overstock my tank!

I really need help sorry!

What is your tank size and current stocking.

Aaron

Erm well I have a 35L (uk) tank with 5 neon's and two apistogramma's.

I have been told that the apisto's need more space really because of agression but also been told that it is possible to keep them in a 35 (L) just as long as they have loads of plants and hiding places.

Well another neon tetra has now died. I only have 4, not sure if I should replace the dead one's or wait for a while to see what happens?

It could just be the quality of the fish in the first place....... I have bought neons in the past and lost all of them within a week. On the other hand, my black neon tetra are still alive (I have 4) and they were the cycle fish when I bought the tank!!!!! They must be nearly six now!!!

I have 5 neon tetra, plus the 4 black neons in my tank, plus other fish and they seem happy enough - but this is the first time my neons have lived more than 3 months!!
