the other day I was in a shop about 50 miles from my house of course that is the only half way deicent one that I have around me my lfs keeper is retarded( Not for real just really ignorant) he keeps birds and reptiles more than fish infact I had to take a vaccum to my 75 gal to get the bird seed out of it. but any way I was in to the good shop and I saw a fiddler crab with a HUGE claw and wanted to get it but I had to hold back cause I figured that he would kill some of my cichlids or one of my pelcos. so what is the deal with them did I have good reason to hold back or not?

I think your cichlids would be to fast for him to catch. They are mainly scavengers. I am not an expert on em, nor have I kept any. They are very kewl lookin guys tho.

I want some too and I have guppies/paradise fish/gouramis. My LFS guy, which is also an hour away (I go there for the same reasons) told me that they wouldn't bother them. So far, I trust him the most out of anybody I have talked to in person dealing with fish, so I guess I would trust his judgement. Don't know what would happen if one was in a cave and a guppy flew in though. One thing is they can climb good, so if you have plants or filters they can climb up, be careful. My brothers got out a lot and they got in his filter too. If I got one, I would probably put some sort of velcro adhesive to my power filter so they couldn't lift the hood and get out. Lastly, one of my friends has some and he put duct tape on the holes in the back where they could climb out. You prob. want to seal off all exits, especially if you have tall plants or filters on top of tank. You should wait for some more knowledgeable replies however. I am not that brilliant when it comes to fishkeeping, yet.
