Anyone know how long they live, because my brothers just croaked last night and I'm trying to figure out if it's something we did or if it was just old. We've had it for two or three years now. So do you think it was just old, or something else?

I dont know exactly how long they live, but i've read most fiddler crabs live around 1.5-2 years in the wild, so i think you did good :good: . What kind of setup were you keeping them in? :)

Depending on the species, fiddler crabs can live a decade in the wild, but I'd consider anything over 2 years to be good in captivity. Most people mistreat them and end up killing them in a month.

Fiddler crabs dont tend to last too long unless they have some dry land to use, in fact they are a LAND carb, water is just needed, they do not normaly live in it. they also need brackish water. thay said two or three years is better than most crabs!

We just had him in a five gallon at first with a box filter and some rocks so he could climb out, once we could upgrade him he was in a ten gallon by himself. We fed him a mix of carnivore fish pellets, algae ones and the sinking wafers for bottom feeders. I used smaller than normal dosage of aquarium salt when we changed his water, but we didn't clean the tank out as much as with the fish because we figured he was probably used to more natural old water.

Well, I have to thank you guys, you made me feel a lot better and now I can make sure my brother knows he did a good job and it wasn't anything we did.
