Well I've been deciding what to do with my 10 gallon, and I've decided that I would like to get some crabs and dedicate the tank to them solely.

I've been researching them on google, however I cannot find out how many fiddlers can go in a 10 gallon tank.

I will be using sand to make a hill and also a large rock for basking.

Another question I have is, all the lfs around here have their fiddlers in freshwater and I have read that they are brackish. Does this mean I will have to accilimate them back to brackish water?

and How do you make brackish water?

Also will I need to use a heater if the portion of water isn't very deep?

Thanks soooo much I don't want to rush into this!

i have a ten gallon tank with two red clwed crabs. The top third of the tank isnt filled. i have a submersible heater and keep the temp around 78-80 degrees. it's filled with inert black sand lava rocks a big piece of drift wood that pokes out of the top of the water and has a few plants. Money wort i think. Also i add two table spoons of salt with each water change. i'm not sure if it considered brackish but the calcium in the slat helps the crabs molt. they have both molted once and seem to be doing fine. they do better if they can get out of the water and the water needs to be well circulated as the crabs are pretty messy. I chnage more than half the water weekly. the crabs really need places to hide. one of my crabs hangs out in the lava rocks and the other either on top of the wood out of the water or upside down on the bottom side of the wood. he also has a cave he likes i made out of lava rocks on the other side of the tank. i got the lava rocks at home depot. theyre barbeque lava rocks but they work just fine as long as you wash the dust off before putting them in. i'm going to move them both to a 20 because i think they need a little more room and maybe they wont dirty up the water so quickly. i'm going to get some more wood as they really seem to like it. red clawed crabs come from mangrove swamps where theyre are alotof wood hiding places so the more wood in and out of the water the better. also i feed them once a day. before i go to bed. they eat sinking wafers, sinking crab and lobster pellets but mostly they like peas. just take a frozen one peel the skin and drop em in and the crabs love em. they also eat the pond snails in the tank. the pond snails dont like the brackish water but i dont care as long as they clean up before they die or get eaten. hope this helps. :)
