Few Questions

Daim, waste of money. Wish id read the posts earlier :\ From the reserach i did, no one said anything about it being a problem :( Guess didnt look well enough.

Ok lights are good :D Everything is coming into place now :D

How thick a substrate am i looking at needing in the display tank? At the moment there is none (really should have put it down BEFORE the live rock lol.

Oh and thanks seffie, going to find it now :)

EDIT: Got a question, on the rocks there seems to be some coral like things but they appear dead? They are very hard to touch, very rough, are a pale white/gray. There is a few of these on the rocks, some of which have a bit of colour in a small spot only though. Any ideas on the little red/pink thing i described? Still no good photos lol

Nope, you have done it the right way round - rock first then sand :good: The depth depends on the look you are after and what you intend to keep. My sand is not very deep at all in comparision with some, its about 2cm in places but in others it is less.

Really need some photos to identify the things you are talking about, but dont rule out that they are still alive, live rock has many surprises :good:

Ok. Here we go with a few pics. Firstly identifications. Then if we manage it ill post a quick pic of the tank hehe :D Bit of a reward for you all :p

I cropped the pics to just see the, hopefully, coral. I know they are not the best photos but this thing is small and my camera is not the greatest for macro shots.

Little Red/Pink Coral:

The other corals which appear dead to me... Hope not!:

Sorry for all the pictures but i am really hoping they are corals hehe. Good luck! Remember the reward!!

Cannot seem to find a sponge on google that looks like mine yet. Am still looking though. Ive actualy found about 5 or 6 of these at smaller sizes, the one pictured being the biggest. Could it be possible that a few different rocks would have the tiny coral?

Also, from the few pics on google i saw of montis it does not appear to have the same 'texture' to the coral that the possible coral has on it... So not sure :\

Better pictures will come when my lights arrive in the next few days :)

Identifying specific sponges is pretty hard - so I wouldn't worry too much unless someone identifies it as a possible pest sponge.

Keep an eye on it, see how fast it spreads - hopefully not too fast.

Well i see about 5 of them all up over a few different rocks. Im hoping their not pests :p

Got one of my wave makers/power heads set up this morning :) Ordered all my other bits and pieces should arrive tomorrow or day after :) Stay tuned!

THanks everyone. :)

Ok sweet got everything coming in tomorrow, except skimmer, coral sand for display, and test kits. Those are coming in friday.

Journal soon to come!! Or maybe ill continue this thread as a journal and ask a mod to move it.

Oh something ive beena little worried about is, not seeing very many critters on my live rock... I do however NOT have a light on the aquarium yet.. .But with my torch scouting i have found nothing as of yet :(

Is this normal? Or is my live rock not actually live so to speak..

Don't worry, its fairly normal :good: if you have a red torch or the like, shine that in at night and see what you can see :hyper:

Seffie x

Even after months(maybe even years) you will end up seeing new stuff on your LR.

I saw a crab for the first time the other day, and a week before that a large bristle star, and a few weeks before that some stomalia snails etc :p

Night time you will probably see a lot of worms, and even small crawling crustaceans :p

Ok. Gotta try again late at night hehe.

Still waiting for my parts, they better arrve today! :p

Pics soon to come :) Probably going to start anew journal.

Ok excitment tonight! Left all my lights and telly off so the tank wasnt lit and when i came home did a bit of torch scouting :p

And guess what?!?! I found a few critters!!!

Well 2 to be specific i saw. I saw a worm or something pocking out a hole in a rock buto nly like 5mm out and maybe 2mm thick, torch on it for 30 sec tryna identify it (no luck with anything lol) then it slowly sucked itself back into the rock :(

Then i moved around the tank and saw a shrimp or something like that on the rocks! Bout 10mm big, it was a clear/white colour, did not see it much it ran into rocks. But atleast theres something there!! :D

Also saw a little dead shrimp type critter or an exoskeleton, if there is any critters who look like that but it definetly was not alive. Got blown away by my powerhead and i lost it lol.

Well thats all the excitement after todays disapointment (my parts did not arrive today, stupid couriers!). Should arrive tomorrow though.

Any ideas on what it could be?

It is approximately 10mm long, 1-2mm thick, 2 visible antenas on top of the head which are about 5mm long. Saw about 8 legs but not 100% sure on this as i kinda lost it when it got blown by the powerhead.

This is exciting :p Going to buy red celephane to put on my torch tomorrow lol.
