I heard people mention fertilizer should be used for plants.

I've finally got new lights which do 2.3 WPG and using some carbon liquid stuff for co2!

I have no clue on fertilizers. Is it all squirty stuff? any brand I should look for in paticular?

in europe, dry ferts are popular. In the U.S. (Canada maybe as well), liquid ferts seem to be more popular. Dry ferts are much cheaper in the long run if you can ahold of them all. But as far liquids go, Flourish are pretty popular. I use Flourish and have had pretty good success.

Yeh as Phlawed said. BTW you adding CO2? With the light level you have CO2 is really considered a necessity.

i'm just using some flourish excel. is that ok?

Excel is a great product from what Ive heard, however its not a fertiliser, its a bit like CO2. Fertilisers add things that plants need to grow, like iron. You wont be adding any iron to the water with the excel, so you'd probably do well to get a fertiliser like API leaf zone too.

Cheers Sam, I'm going down the LFS tomorrow so I'll keep my eyes open for the product!

My girlfriend got told that having airstones takes out the co2. Is this true? Should I be aerating at all?

I use the tetra pride stuff, it's a whole lot cheaper than flouish stuff and comes in bigger quantites and I have noticed my plants grow a lot faster with it though flourish is probably better.

Yes an air stone will remove CO2, but this is becase it aggitaes the surface lots allowing the CO2 to escape, the airsone and bubble themselves dont have any affect as far as I know.

I dont know how this would work on excel though :/
