I just bought what I was told a female Betta But today there is a bubble nest. Could it be a male with real short fins? Or can females blow bubble nests ?b Thank You Melanie
It is most likely a male betta, truthfully, normally wild type bettas have very short fins, and can be easily mistaken for a female. But I have been told, though I do not know how valid this is , that female bettas not only normally have short fins, but there are also horizontal strips that are on the females and not on the males. If any one knows if this is truth i would like to know, but for the most part it is most likely a male wild type betta.
A lot of female Bettas sold by fish shops are really juvanile males that have yet to develop their finnage and colouring,if the fish is making bubble nests it is definately a male.
hi melanie
it is quite normal for a female to create a bubble nest .
when i'm breeding my bettas the female sometimes chooses to help the male blow a bubble nest . it may be strange but true. and not all females have those stripes but it is very commen for them to have stripes. if you are going to breed this female i suggest to wait a month incase it develops into a male but there is a way to tell if its female is if its wide in the middle its a female and if it has a small white dot hanging a bit on its belly.
