Hello everyone! I'm hoping to start breeding guppies soon. I've got a great looking boy that's a half-black red, but he isn't getting any younger, and I'd like to start breeding him before he gets too old. Any tips for picking out a couple of females from my LFS would be appreciated. Thanks!

Alright, I've got two girls now, who are completely grey and don't have much color. :( They're pretty much identical though, so I think their sisters. The problem now is my male. He doesn't seem very "into" them, you could say. I've seen him lurking at the bottom of the tank a lot when they're both up at the top. Any tips?

give it time..

Trust me, it won't take him long  He'll soon not stop leaving them alone. However, if they are from a shop that keeps males and females together then they'll already be pregnant and he won't get to create his own babies from them for a good 3 months yet.
Do you have a picture of him? He sounds very pretty :) This is my little boy.

Let's hope he starts noticing the girls soon lol.

I LOVE your boy! Is he an endler or partly an ender? Sadly, I don't know how to upload pictures. And today, his tail got a little torn up, which I am investigating the cause of as we speak. :/ At the pet store, though, they didn't keep the guys and girls together, and I asked for non-pregnant females, so hopefully the first batch of fry will be his.

Thanks :) Yeah he is. His father was a pure Endler and his mother was a run of the mill standard guppy. I didn't breed him myself but I know the person who does. And Yes for the people who want to keep Endler lines pure, I have asked them why they cross them and they said "It adds colour". I did tell them I'd rather they didn't but I wouldn't have gotten my boy if they didn't.
Mine has had his tail nipped by the females. Some females get a bit upset when the male starts chasing so he may has bothered them a bit much. His tail isn't usually that shape  It's normally a nice full tail :)
To upload pictures go to Photobucket and if you don't already have an account then create one. Upload your photo's to Photobucket and them copy and paste the IMG code into the text box on here :)

:/ Don't quite meet the age requirements for a couple of months in order to sign up for photobucket. Maybe later, though. :) Are you sure it won't be a problem if they're nipping? He's gotten a little bit worse, and has started to stay in the plants at kind of an angle and not move. I moved the girls into a bucket just to make sure they were the problem, and sure enough, he's pretty much fine without them there. Any suggestions? I might just take them back to my LFS.

Take the male out and move things about in the tank. Add him back first and then slowly re-add them. It won't be a problem, they should stop eventually. Mine have calmed down a lot now. I find it's more when the male is pestering for you know what from them and they don't want to. They get defensive and nip. Though I've never had a female guppy injure a male too bad or kill one before so you should be OK. His tail will look a little tattered for a while but as they calm down it'll re-grow like mine is :)
