I was sold this Bristlenose by my LSF as a female due to the lack of bristles but my Male really doesn't like it and it does have some small bristles on its nose.

After reading up am I correct in thinkin that females only have small bristles on their lips and non on their nose and this is actually a male?

How big is it? Hard to tell from the photo...

sometimes females do not get any bristles at all....

if they do, its normally just on their "snout" and not on their head like males

how long have you had it.....when you say your male "doesnt like it" what exactly do u mean?

two bristlenoses is normally a disaster regardless of sexes....unless they are breeding size and in proper conditions....

which yours are not

It's an underdeveloped male, if they are in a tank with other BN's and there is a dominant male, the other males will mature and develop slower as you can see from the bristles starting to develop on the snout.

2 Bristlenoses is not a disaster unless both are male and one is very dominant. I know people who keep 2 females together and things like that.

Ok I have decided it is an under developed male. It has odontodes (although small) on its head and on its pectoral fins and has evertible cheek odontodes which come out at times. I only bought him today after reading they do better kept in pairs and breed easily. I have put him in my other tank and will take him back tomorrow.

please go back and note my wording "normally"....which means generally speaking.....

there are exceptions of course....but generally speaking 2 bristlenoses in the same tank is asking for trouble....

Hmm, the only time I've heard of trouble with 2 bristlenoses in the same tank is if it's 2 males.

The dominant male BN with bristles about an inch long just chased it everywhere, uprouting all the plants and knocking leaves off and was also aggressive to the other fish which he has never done before. Just what you don't want when you have spent your hard earned on a new fish!

The new one is now in my other tank and seems to be getting on fine with my Rubbernose and Whiptails so I have regained peace and tranquility for now!

how long have you had him/her?

i would wait at least a week or two, for them to get used to one another.....

give them a bit of time....they arnt going to kill each other

That's kind of contradicting yourself :/ If they are two males there's a good chance the dominant one may actually kill the new one.

not contradicting at all....no deaths will occur at their current sizes...."trouble" does not mean they will kill each other
