Can you get female bettas - with crowntails? I bought two today but they have short fins (are these called plakats?!) and the only crowntails they have are males but I can't keep them as they would fight with my male guppies. I rung about 6 other LFS but they only have the short-finned females too.

Hello,
Yes, you can get female crowntail bettas. They just might be difficult to find at your lfs (depending on your location). If your lfs doesn't have any, and you're comfortable buying online, alot of people have recommended to look on aquabid.

Thanks.

Not sure about your location, but right now they have them on sale here for $3 per fish. All are Royal Blue.

Thanks for all your help guys!! One more thing - females aren't too hard to keep or anything? I asked in one LFS and they said they never stocked them because they had lots of demands! :dunno: Is this true? I have two short-finned females and they are fine. (Are the short-finned one called plakats?!)

I've heard that females can get aggressive if they have previously been kept in a small tank/bowl. When they are added back into a community tank they can cause problems.

However I've also two female bettas who live very happily with frogs, guppies, pictus, and a shark.

Again it's down to the individual fish.

I have a community tank with female bettas and they have to establish a "pecking order" whenever you add a new female. If you decide to start a female commnity tank, just add one new girl at a time every other week or so. The biggest females usually nip at each other to find out who's boss but it all blows over in just a short time and everyone is MUCH happier than living in that little cup they come in.

Female crown...... :D

Beautiful. Bettaman, is that what you call a double-ray crown? Her "rays" seem a fair bit longer than the typical female crown.
