hi, i was wondering if a female betta would be ok in a community tank with guppies or would she be best in a group of other female bettas, or maybe alone?

everyone seems to own male bettas (including my self) but im thinking of getting a female. anyone have opinions/advice on this?

I've had females in communities and no problems. Not saying it's a 100% going to work but I never had problems.

Every betta will react different to a community tank. I know that there are several different guppy types and I know endlers work well with bettas because they don't have the flashy tail like a Moscow guppy would. The betta would be population control if you have female guppies. Someone on another forum had her betta in a 10 gallon with endlers, she took him out because of the endler fry.

As has been stated, it depends on the bettas, but one must consider the long colorful tails of guppies plus their need for water flow, as well as bettas dislike for currents and long flowy tails...
You can risk it and try it out to see if/how long it will last, but take her out at the sign of any bullying..

We have a female in our community tank.
We did have some guppies in with her, but after a few days one of the guppies had a big chunk out of it's fin.
Not sure if it was the betta or not, but the guppies were taken out of the tank anyway.
As others have said, it just really depends on the betta. Some will be happy with whatever tankmate.. while others won't tolerate them very well.

I've had male and female bettas (not at the same tank) in community tanks and they should be fine as long as you don't have any other fish with them with long fins. They feel threatened at that and my pick on them.

I have a female in with 2 platys& 2 corydoras.
I had guppies beforehand, they since died off though.
Wasn't the bettas fault.Natural causes.
So yes it is possible.Don't go for too flowy tails if you can help it or too brightly colored (although mine were & the betta couldnt care less).
So,it's do-able :good:

i have females with guppies, mollies, plecs, corys, even if it trys to attack them there just tooo fast :shifty: should be ok from my opinion

Yesterday i put life in my 20 gal ::4 dwarf frogs,10 ghost shrimps,3 snails, 2 algae eaters, 4 fancy male guppies, 2 female bettas:: I have been very sick the last couple of days and sleeping on and off i awoke at 2 am this morning and my pink female betta had one of the orange males by the tail, i poked her with the net a couple times so she would release him, she didn't so i pressed her with it and she let go. i removed her and placed her into a small bowl. this morning at about 10 i woke up, checked on my fish, and the orange male guppy was dead, and a black guppy was as well. I thought the other female betta had good temperment but i guess i was wrong. even more odd was the fact that the bettas had been in a community tank when i picked them out and the two surviving guppies are much, much flashier then the casualties.
