My female betta's belly is very big and round like a marble and at first I thought I was overfeeding her, so for 1 week I fed only daphnia, small bits of pea, and even 1 day without food. She went to the bathroom normally all week but her belly never shrunk at all. She is normal otherwise, but she never used to be like this she was always lean. I have a mature male in the tank next to her building a huge bubblenest and she is showing breeding stripes often, so my guess is she is full of eggs due to breeding conditons, but she will not "drop" the infertile eggs like I read they are supposed to after a few days, and I dont know how much bigger her belly can get before it becomes troublesome to her health.

Don't let her see the male, ensure there is something covering his tank up from her. The reason why she is most probably egg bound is because she can see the male. Block them from seeing each other, don't feed her for 2 days (she will be ok), give her half a pea during this time.

would she eventually drop the eggs even if she still saw him? It will be hard to block him since both tanks are on desk counter. Are you sure she is definetly egg bound? This is the first time she ever saw a male so I am not sure if this is normal or not, that's why I asked.

Put a file inbetween them or a tea towel.

I can't say for sure, we'd need to see a photo of her. She will absorb the eggs

Here she is last year before I got the male. (her color changes at an angle she still has turquoise coloring)

Hi, i think she may just be contispated. Try fasting her for longer.

Id feed her a de-shelled pea and then fast her fo 3 days. (4 days max.)

Hopefully that will sort it. Shes a stunning betta! :)

Ok I will try that, she does love peas so that helps! She has been pooing more often so mabye you are right and she is a bit slimmer now.

She is 3 years old, so she probably takes longer to digest food than my male betta who is not even a year old yet, he has a fast metabolism still.

It's been almost 2 weeks and her belly is the same. I tried not feeding her for a few days, I tried peas, when I didnt feed her she didnt poo, then when I fed her she pooed again, so I figure the bloating is from eggs and not constipation issues. I dont know what else to do so she gets rid of the eggs.

Have you tried putting something in between the two tanks yet? That will surely stop her from getting full of eggs.
