Well, as most of you know that I am in the process of conditioning my new betta pair. I'm feeding them endless amonts of bloodworms and misqiutoe larvae since the female was at a lfs and was fed fish flakes  and the male was at petco, he was fed bio gold pellets :/ . I know that bloodowrms are very fatty. My female doesn't know what MODERATION means. She won't stop eating even though she is HUGE, her stomach looks like a barrel!! She still hasn't stopped. I'm worried about her health, will her very large stomach go down? Untill then, what should I do and feed her? What else can they eat, like insect wise, like small crickets, chopped up earth worms, anything like that?? Thanks,
Ron

uhhhhm, you say she won't stop eating.....why not try limiting her , she can't get the bloodworms herself can she? Geeez if mine had the choice they'd eat until they went belly-up

Yeah, i guess I could reword it and say I have no moderation. I just want her to be healthy and have lots of eggs!! The male has no problem, he knows when to stop. So I guess it the two of us, me and her....we have no idea what MODERATION means. Yes, I'll start limiting her...LOL

;)
Bettas LOVE to eat & I would imagine in the wild they snap at every little bug that lands in their area & more than likely don't limit themselves ,but still....they can get dropsy from over eating

My female also gets bloated...however this is because she has eggs in her. Are you sure shes just not full of eggs? ;)

She could be, but, Would she fill that much up with eggs in 3 minutes?
Ron

I seirosuly don't think that yoru betta ate so much in 3 minutes...

It could be that she is just egg filled, but it could also be that she is bloated and constipated from all that rich food. If that is the case, you might try raising her temp slowly and adding aquarium salt and stop feeding her foe a day or two to let her clear out her system. Then you can go back to conditioning. On the other hand, try looking at her from the top. Do her scales stick out like a pinecone? If so she has dropsy.
