I have never owned a Betta before however while I was at my LFS today looking for possible stock for my planted 20 gal tank i spotted a beautiful blue female Betta, not sure of its exact species but ill find out if i get it, my question is would one female Betta do well in a 20 gal planted. the tank mates are,

2x Siamese flying fox
8x cherry barb
4-8x small shoaling fish(yet to be purchased but will be of the same aggression level)

my concern is the flying fox and cherry barbs won't mix and flying foxes need bigger than 75ltrs as they grow to around 7".

You will need to rethink your set up and choose fish carefully, based on their natural temperament :good:

ive never seen a true flying fox at 7". chineese algae eaters (often sold as flying foxes) do get rather large, but again, ive never seen a 7" specimen (i have a releative with 5 in a 120 gal around 5 inches..had them for ages). agreed tho that they will outgrow a 20 gal. and sometimes get nasty with each other if only a few specimens in one tank.
id ditch the flying foxes and get some ottos.
cheers

they are true flying foxes and the 20 gal is actually my smallest tank so when the time comes they will have a much bigger home, my original question about the Betta temperament and compatibility still stands.

do appreciate the heads up on the foxes getting nasty, they are playing nice now (at about 2"). they will be watched
