Feeding Time

well it depends on what fish you have some like to peck at food all day like the angelfish so if you have them feed 2 times day but apart from that i would only feed one time a day

ok cool I have 2 angel fish at the moment and going to add rummy nose tetra, bolivian rams and blue rams

what is the best food to feed angels?

Feed them three times a day, on

Brine Shrimp
Beef Heart (4 or 5 times a week)
Blood Worms (once or twice a week)
Mysis Shrimp
High quality flake
High quality floating pellets (I fed mine Color bits)
Sinking pellets

They eat pretty much anything, but those and more, are what I fed mine.

I was told not to overfeed but I tend to like very small and often.

I like to feed in the afternoon and depending how quick the food is eaten I may give them more at night.

When I had the Bala' s and clowns as they grew bigger they grew hungry so I ended up feeding twice a day and lots as it was gone almost as soon as you had put the lid on an the bloodworms back to the freeer.

The pictis catfish I had to defrost as it looked as if he ate the cube whole froen not quite but the others waiting until they fell.

I give cucumber as a treat and this floats for a day or so and now Plec has gone I'll need to remove it.

I feed my fry three times a day Yes my platy's despite their new home have produced and gouramis is not interested.

Great thanx I have only been feeding once a day and everytime I get home they rush up to me like little puppies (lol they are soooo cute) and I was thinking maybe they weren't being feed enough :)

I feed mine twice a day. I have mainly mollies and danios. They are little eating machines! I reckon I could feed them every hour and they would still eat it all, and the next hour still act like they are starving!
I feed a small amount of flake each time.
On weekends I will give them a treat of bloodworms one night, and peas the next.

I think if they are livebearers you feed small and often.

Something like a Paranha you would not feed as often but in a larger meatier chunk at the time.

The rule I go bu is how quick it leaves the tank.

If any is left after say ten minutes you are definately feeding too much.

I think Guppies though just would eat non stop. lol

I can't see angelfish naturally consuming cows in the wild. Also, most fish are very bad at consuming mammal proteins, so stuff like beefheart should be considered a once in a while treat and not form a constant staple of most fishes' diets.

That's pretty much what i've learned. beefheart is something that should only be fed once in a while. when i feed my angels, i alternate between brine shrip and bloodworms monday thru thursday. a little beefheart and mysis shrimp on friday and high quality sinking granules on the weekends. this seems to work for mine. they've more doubled their size in the last 2.5 - 3 months and have really healthy colors. each fish has it's own tastes so you might have to try out different things until you find something that works for your fishies. oh and i only feed once a day...after work :)

i'm sure you'll find the right thing in no time :good:

I can't see angels consuming cod or salmon in the wild either, but these are components of many quality flake foods. Straight beef heart is way too heavy in animal protein for most fish, but mixed with spinach, various seafoods, vitamins, spirulina and such it is a great conditioning food for angels.

Straight beef heart you buy at the lfs is junk, full of gristle & fat. If you trim & grind your own it is much more suitable for angels.

Any of my angels that are larger than quarter body size get a homemade beef heart mix once or twice weekly. I rotate through about 4 different flakes for morning feeding, in the evening they get live blackworms every other day, alternated with brine shrimp or bloodworms on the off day. Smaller angels get fed 3 times daily; breeders that I'm resting get fed once daily. Anything larger than about half-dollar body size gets fasted one day weekly, unless they are breeders that I'm conditioning.

Ooops, sorry guys.

At first I thought it should be fed like blood worms (once or twice a week) but remembered a post, where people where arguing that beef heart could be fed as a staple, so I changed it. Anyways, I fed it to mine 3 to 4 times a week, on average, and they did okay. Guess it wasn't a great idea though :(

I have a few different kinds of fish so I like to give veriety. I have quite a few different off-the-shelf dry foods which I rotate. And about once a week I'll put in a bit of cucumber pushed ondo a teaspon to hold it down. Or a bit of fruit from time to time.
